Being creative has become something that I'm compelled to recognize and take part in every day in some form or another. Four years ago I allowed my gift of writing to resurface and become a driving force in my life. Sharing it became important to me. Now I try to stay in the flow of that passion and purpose as I receive what I am to share.

A tiny nudge, an inspiration

a word that lingers and floats,

a moment of discovery and awe

becomes an image we make come to life.

An unmistakable gift for capturing

the beauty of our existence

grows into a passion and purpose

to make our introspection become light.

An energy that filters through and out,

an expression of our inner essence

becomes an outward reflection

and connection between God and self.

Creativity is the means by which

our own creation is celebrated;

our gift received is meant to be given

to God and the scope of humanity.

Thank you, Graham for this wonderful gift. I don’t know if this is actually considered a poem or just a revelation.

Come to my table

I went many years thinking I lacked a passion,

consumed by caring for the sick and dying.

When that chapter closed, I felt empty,

knowing I needed to find a new passion.

Passions are unique gifts we often overlook,

yet they've been within us all along.

For me, it started as a family tradition,

a routine gig that evolved over the years.

Cooking is one of my gifts; it's not just food,

but love, warmth, and comfort served on a plate.

I find joy in helping the homeless and those in need,

providing a comforting meal that shows I care.

Seeing the impact on their daily lives,

knowing I've made their day easier and nights more comfortable,

fills me with warmth and a sense of purpose.

I love the challenge of planning menus with family and friends,

especially when serving large crowds.

Preparing a meal for 200 is a feat,

but with many helping hands, we feel complete.

We involve our children, teaching them the gift of giving,

instilling joy and kindness as they grow.

At the serving line, they find delight,

helping others without fear of scarcity.

These meals on a plate are gifts of love,

bringing comfort to those who need a hug.

I cherish having guests at my home,

sharing laughter and carefree moments.

Even small gestures, like finding a special gift,

can bring joy and laughter.

I recall a little pink pig that played a recorded message

bringing delight to a friend's birthday celebration.

That gift was given many years ago

He still finds laughter and Joy in the little pig that yells wee while driving down the road.

So if God has given you special gifts,

share them abundantly, and you'll receive all you give, back tenfold.

Challenge week 3

Passion

Two Swans

His long neck stretches across the water in tandem with his mate. He knows his own beauty.

Stark white plumage with black feathering his eyes.

A golden yellow beak frames his face.

Reaching toward the heavens after a drink he praises the one who rules the sky.

His lady arcs her neck in unison.

Swans are a beauty to behold.

The bold whistle of a single loon breaks the silence.

In a dance step they glide across water they linger.

Proudly he sneaks a peak at his lady his passion clear.

She peeks a glance at her chosen letting him steer no music needed here.

As they move side by side lifting their long necks showing all who observes their silhouette how even nature can dance.

The Written Voice

The years have passed as if a timeless dream

Loving, adventure, exciting, rewarding

Arriving at a time of longing for that which was not

Focusing on the improbable dream

A dream of completing a hidden desire

The simple words “I will”

Barriers broken with courage over fear

Energy channeled to where passion lies

Guidance in the stillness a welcome companion

The journey continues on the path chosen

When I get there I will know

Empowered with hope moving forward

Inspiring, attainable, complete

Hidden thoughts of the heart to be heard

Released as doves rising to the heavens

My voice now revealed in the written word

I am emboldened by victory

My heart sings with joy

My thoughts arise from my soul

My written voice lives on forever

I have overcome

Week 3 Writer's Challenge

A couple of years ago I stared at a photo of my aging hands and realized what a blessing it was to know what had transpired over time. The challenge this week got me thinking about the dream I had from a very young age. The dream continued into my teens and I never discussed it with anyone until now. In my mind I was supposed to be on a stage as a concert pianist!! Playing classical music on the piano was my passion. But.....God had other plans. Here is a simple poem reflecting how my life turned out and of course I wouldn't have it any other way with these aging hands.

THE STAGE

How fortunate I am to see these hands become older

I am blessed to think back as far as I can remember

Oldest of three sisters these hands buttoned their coats

The little mother in me never had any doubts

These hands began to play piano at six was my age

A future concert pianist -- a dream to be on stage

Life moved on as quick as a breeze

Still hoping to be in concert and sit at the keys

Four little boys to fix cuts and scrapes

These hands made them better with kisses and tape

Comforting them with hugs wrapped in these hands

The stage seemed further away and against my plans

These hands teaching grandkids piano I hold dear

The dream of the stage faded year after year

God's plan was so simple and showed me another page

These hands brought my little ones to my dream of the stage.

Gail, this is a beautiful poem. I love how you seem to still hold your dream in a sacred space while also appreciating the different path your life has taken.

Your first line particularly speaks to me. It seems our culture almost shames aging as if it is something to avert at all costs, to hide from. As I age I feel the pull of those tendencies, but I also feel absolutely rebellious. To age is to have the most profound gift; more life! Our lines, softness and edges are stories. I think they should be celebrated as you've done so beautifully in your poem.

Teaching young students has filled my life with many blessings and joy. Watching young children grow, gain knowledge, and earn new skills has been my passion for many years. The rewards were many and joy filled my heart. My writing this week is a sharing of the joy I received over the years.

Joy of Teaching

Joy of seeing children learn and grow

Like watching wildflowers bloom

Teacher's joy, flower garden of delight

Imparting knowledge, teaching skills for life

Confidence with each new step

Teacher's joy, trees of knowledge start to grow

Inspiring each, with stumbles or struggles, to be their best

With guidance, fostering, nurturing see the inner growth

Teacher's joy, caring of the heart

Using creative lessons, learning to enhance

Watch the understanding dawn in their eyes

Teacher's joy, "aha moments" precious sunrise

Laughter, questions, curiosity dances

A spark ignites the journey of wisdom

Teacher's joy, passion in the gift from above

Touching lives, fueling dreams, stories to shape

The first steps of life long learning begin

Teacher's joy, treasures in the heart

The art of teaching

Teaching is my great passion,

I do it with all my heart.

I guide my students with patience and love,

helping each one to learn and to shine.

I feel joy and deep satisfaction,

to see them grow with each lesson.

I strive and commit myself,

to always educate them with respect.

Children are little treasures,

curious and full of dreams.

By giving them the best of me, I teach them to fly,

to reach their goals and never stop dreaming.

So, in each class, with a lot of emotion,

we create a space of love and connection.

Because being a teacher is a great gift,

an opportunity to be better every day.

I love the creative process. I love community. And weather is a big part of my life. I've tried to incorporate all three below.

"Brainstorming"

“Looks like today’s weather includes a brainstorm.

You can just tell when there is a storm a brewing in that chaotic mind

Watch out! She’s got that look. Another idea is brewing!”

I love, love, love brainstorming ideas

Whether it’s a written or visual creative expression

Or an idea for a project or event.

Brainstorming within my communities is best yet.

Bouncing ideas and thoughts around

Fleshing out the details

Getting others onboard and buying into the idea

Making it happen

And reviewing its success

aka “GBU” - the good, the bad and the ugly.

Luckily my communities expect this from me now

They are not surprised any longer

They accept my unorthodox and quirky ideas

I thrive in these environments when my creative juices are flowing

I hope my contributions make a meaningful, positive impact.

“And just like that the storm passes.

Today’s forecasted weather is calm

With another weather system headed our way tomorrow.

You never know when Hurricane Dia will make land fall.”

"A Sacred Rhythm" is a poem of reflection of my passion and purpose—to walk in faith, serve with love, and help others thrive through God’s grace. This poem speaks to the journey of aligning with His plan, finding courage in prayer, and embracing the transformative power of trust and perseverance. Each word flows from my heart, inspired by the lives I’ve been blessed to witness grow and flourish. It’s a testament to the sacred rhythm that guides my every step, fueling my deep desire to empower, encourage, and equip others to live fully in His light. Whether this is done through the creative means of writing, music, or coaching others; to watch and see their lives change for the better fuels the passion for me to persevere and never give up.

A SACRED RHYTHM

Empower, Encourage, Equip

I rise with courage, bold and true,

Through prayer, I find the strength within,

To walk the path God calls me to.

Create, Commit, Connect

In every act, my purpose grows,

Through perseverance, I press ahead,

A steady light where His love bestows.

Trust, Transform, Thrive

Each leap of faith, a gift divine,

Aligned with grace, I humbly serve,

And witness lives that intertwine.

Compassion flows in gentle streams,

Blessed to see their courage unfold.

I feel alive, resilient, filled with clarity,

A story of truth, beautifully told.

Empowered by faith, I stand, I give,

Deeply connected I feel inspired.

With every breath, with every will,

I serve, I shine, He is with me everywhere.

Prayer, Persevere, Purpose

A sacred rhythm guides my days,

Through storms and calm, I stay the course,

In all I do, I lift His praise.

With gratitude, I rise each morning,

Anchored in faith, my soul alive,

Empowered to serve, to give, to love,

Through Him, I trust, transform, and thrive.

While reading the prompts for Week 3 , I must admit that I was challenged a bit and was thinking to myself. What should I write about? What are my creative gifts? Do I have a Golden Ticket? I decided to listen to my heart and for this challenge to focus on my professional life and to write down things that happen in my everyday life and what I often hear the people around my circle say.

In a world that often feels rushed and chaotic, I've discovered that one of my greatest gifts is the ability to foster gratitude and encouragement in those around me. Whether I'm bustling through the halls of the hospital or guiding fellow artists in a painting class, my passion for uplifting others shines brightly.

Gratitude is more than just a feeling; it's a practice that I strive to embody every day. In my interactions with colleagues, I make it a point to express appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Whether it's a simple "thank you" after a long shift or a heartfelt note recognizing their contributions, I believe that acknowledging others fosters a positive atmosphere.

I often hear from my coworkers that my encouragement makes a difference. They tell me that my loud, enthusiastic personality-affectionately attributed to my European roots-creates an environment where they feel valued and motivated. When I'm not at work, they miss my energy, and it warms my heart to know that I play a part in making our workplace feel like a supportive community.

My knack for organization is another gift that has proven invaluable, especially in the fast-paced environment of a hospital. Some may call me bossy, but I like to think of it as being a natural leader. I thrive on coordinating tasks, ensuring that everything runs smoothly, and keeping my team on track. My colleagues often turn to me for guidance, and I relish the opportunity to help them navigate through challenges .

I've learned that my assertiveness and strong communication skills help create clarity amidst the chaos. By fostering teamwork and collaboration, I strive to make our work environment not just efficient, but also enjoyable, even by doing little things like baking them cookies and cakes so they can enjoy on their breaks or organising a sneaky lunch party during work hours.

Outside of the hospital, my love for creativity flourishes in painting classes. It's a space where I can share my passion for art and help others explore their own creativity. When I see people struggle with their projects, I'm always ready to lend a hand, whether it's offering techniques, sharing color palettes, or simply providing words of encouragement.

I feel such joy when assisting others in their artistic journeys.I've witnessed firsthand how a little support can spark inspiration and lead to beautiful creations and experiences.

As I reflect on my journey, I realize that my gifts of gratitude, encouragement, and organization are not just personal traits; they are tools that allow me to connect with others and make a meaningful impact.

Going forward, I am committed to nurturing these gifts and continuing to spread positivity. In a world that often seems divided, I believe that by embracing gratitude and creativity, we can build bridges and uplift those around us. After all, it's the connect we foster and the encouragement we shar that truly enrich our lives. I also wrote a couple of poems and decided to share the one about painting which is one of my passions,

Week-3

In the quiet hum of a sunlit room,

Where colours dance and shadows bloom,

I dip my brush in dreams untold,

Each stroke a whisper, each hue a bold.

With laughter woven through the air,

I gather souls, a joyous affair,

In every splash, a spark ignites,

As hearts awaken to creative flights.

I teach the art of seeing wide,

Where canvases bloom and spirits glide,

With every lesson, a new refrain,

To paint the world, to break the chain.

Together we mix the brightest shades,

In vibrant swirls, our worries fade,

With every smile, a masterpiece grows,

In the garden of creativity, our passion flows.

Oh, how they shine, those eyes aglow,

As I guide them through the ebb and flow,

Each creation, a piece of the soul,

Each moment shared; a gift made whole.

For in my hands, not just a brush,

But the power to inspire, to spark a rush,

To uplift the spirit, ignite the heart,

In this realm of art,

we'll never part.

So here I stand, with colons bright,

A beacon of joy, a guiding light,

For in the canvas of life, we'll paint our dreams,

Together, we'll flow like endless streams.

To shy away from sharing has always been easy for me. I am not one who enjoys the light shining my way. Yet, as a teacher this is what I encourage every single day in the classroom. It is hard to open yourself up to others and step out of that protective shell that fits so nicely. I am learning to do just that and I have to admit it feels pretty darn good! Here is my thoughts for this week's writing challenge.

The broad strokes, the intricate details

Reminders to look within myself.

To dance with joy or cry with deep sorrow

All meant to feed my growth.

I look through the lens ready to aim and shoot

I never question the why, I just know the impact.

Teaching and then learning, what beautiful gifts.

I am now brave enough to share.

Pen to paper with no thoughts of judgment and unworthiness.

The gratitude for this gift is abundant

I lifted myself up to this place.

The sun warms my face as I look to the future.

The broad strokes, the intricate details

Paint me into this beautiful life.

January challenge week number 3. Here it goes makes me very nervous!!

How do we define PASSION

A strong feeling.

Fills us with enthusiasm

Keeps us motivated

Married at a very young age

Learned quickly how to turn the page

It was a different life

At that time my big passion

Was to be a good wife

That accomplished I had another

To be a good mother

Took college classes no degree.

Help me to acquire.

The two big jobs

That consumed 50 years of my life

So much accomplished so much learned

Mounds of satisfaction

Received recognition

Jobs well done

They liked me. It felt good.

Was I creative I didn't think so

I surprised myself

Stepping out of my comfort zone

Big time

Writing challenges forced me to give it a try.

Singing was always a passion

Loved being a part of my high school music department.

Participating in various local variety shows

Singing in my church choir

Fulfilling a big passion

Doing it still 30 plus years.

Crafting gives me a big sense of accomplishment

Creating wreaths for all the different seasons

For my home and for others

Creating many flower pots in summer

Some say I have a green thumb.

So now I am older

Retired

To continue to be a good wife

Mother and grandmother

Still remains

My biggest passion forever!!

GIFTS

Did you say thank you then put the gifts God gave you on a shelf?

Did you doubt you’d even use them, scoffing at their worth?

Did you throw them away or keep them just for yourself?

Or did you slowly unwrap them savoring the ribbon and wrappings

Exclaiming at the beautiful offerings inside?

DIVINE PROMISE

Hiding away, innocence lost

Days of silence at a cost

Whole world spinning

Darkness winning.

Back turned from the mirror

Not willing to peer

Path ahead dark and bleak

No words left to speak.

You called me home that day

Leaving my body behind

Gently lifting my spirit high

Above and beyond the sky.

Peace so real

Ready to kneel

Surrendering my all

To answer the call.

From beyond the vast quiet

These words echoed through

"Tell them," He said

This must come from you.

Speak of the light

Stop holding your tongue

Your days will be bright

Your work has begun.

No longer in fear

With love's path lit clear

Fueled by passion deep

A divine promise to keep.

I would like to participate in the poetry writing challenge. As I read Graham's Week 1, 2, and 3, I realized that I needed to prepare and I had many questions about what to write and how to write it. However, I read his advice and realized that it was important to feel. What do you want to write about? Passion? Life? Before thinking about the theme, it was important to keep a diary. Write down the changes and incidents of everyday life, sunsets, snow, nature, family, love, and other feelings that come to mind, and take note of the words that appear. Review your diary. If something pops out, write it down. Become unique. It's okay to be different from others. Write down small events that resonate with your five senses, play, or childlike emotions, and read them over and over again in your diary. It's fun to learn even when you are confused and asking yourself questions. Graham taught me that if you go out of your comfort zone, you may meet someone different, find hope, and move forward. I am truly grateful.

January Writer’s Challenge - Week 3

The Best of Me

When I was a child, I loved to draw, paint, write, and play with words. I would create comic book-like stories, spending weeks and days writing and continuing the stories I created, illustrating them in notebooks my father brought from work; it was so much fun.

Although I wasn’t very good at expressing my feelings with words, I enjoyed putting down on paper what I was thinking or going through at the moment. I would even write my prayers to God.

I couldn’t pick up a pencil or pen without starting to draw; I loved drawing nature, sunrises and sunsets, waterfalls, and rivers!

I liked drawing farms, plants, and animals; it was like therapy for me!

Although this was part of my childhood, I didn’t dedicate enough time to pursue it professionally. I didn’t continue down that path. If I had, I could be a writer today, publishing books and maybe even doing my own illustrations.

After Graham launched the “Writing Challenge” in 2022, followed by the “Eagle Project” on the Time Has Come network, the desire to write was reignited within me. So, I promised myself I would start writing and drawing again, and I created some writings and poems based on my life experiences. This made me feel very proud of myself. Thank you, Graham, for the encouragement to do this! It’s never too late to start over. I can GIVE MY BEST and make it happen, even if I’m a little old for this.

Unfortunately, in the last few months, due to a serious illness in my family, I stopped writing. I didn’t have much motivation to do it. But when Graham launched the “January Writer’s Challenge,” I took another leap of faith, and here I am again!

Another thing I’ve done since I was a child is sing and play the guitar. Although I don’t consider myself a professional singer, there’s a record my family and I made in 1993. Recording that album was a wonderful experience for me.

I hope to dedicate a little more to singing so that I can help others through music.

Here is my simple poem:

Gifts to Serve

The gifts within me bloom

I don’t just want to shine,

I want to light paths on dark nights.

Through love, I want to bring hearts together that are in pain

And offer comfort and a healing embrace.

Through writing, I want to bring hope with words that soothe

And verses that can touch a soul.

May my drawings trace paths

And the images may speak without a voice

And show that true beauty is within us.

May I convey God’s love through my singing

And may each note sung be a breath of peace.

May my gifts be for serving others.

Thank you very much Graham for this space where we can open our hearts and share our feelings. 🙏🏻❤️
