Key Takeaways from the Meeting
Welcome to The Artist’s Way: This is an orientation for a 12-week creative recovery program based on Julia Cameron’s book. Make sure you have the book and have started reading.
Groups & Cohorts: This meeting helps everyone find or confirm their small breakout group for the journey. Groups of 4 are ideal for diversity and manageable meetings, but you can do the program solo if you prefer.
Honour Yourself: Respect your own pace and limits. If you’re dealing with mental health issues or working with a professional, check in with them before participating deeply.
Ground Rules:
We’re here to witness, not fix each other.
Practice active, compassionate listening. No crosstalk or interrupting.
Respect each other’s privacy, especially regarding the Morning Pages.
Morning Pages: Write three pages longhand each morning as an uncensored flow of thoughts. Keep them private, don’t share them with anyone (even group members).
Artist Dates: Take yourself on a weekly solo “artist date”. Something fun, playful, and creative to nurture your inner artist/child. It doesn’t have to cost money or be complicated.
Weekly Check-ins: Rate your openness and share how you’re feeling each week on a scale from 1-5. Honesty and honouring where you’re at is important.
Logistics:
Use breakout rooms to connect with your group.
Exchange contact info to stay in touch and support each other.
If your first group doesn’t feel right, try another. Honour your intuition.
If you missed a group: More time will be given next week to find your group. It’s okay to take your time or take the journey solo.
Encouragement: This is a long journey and it’s normal to feel hesitant or want to quit at some point. Be gentle on yourself, play, have fun, and honour your unique process.
Final Note: Don’t stress if you haven’t figured everything out or still need a group or the book. Keep moving forward at your own pace. The main thing is to keep showing up for yourself and your creative process.
