I just found the arrow that plays Graham's discussion of this poem. What I was GLAD to hear was his laughter. All of you who have read any of my comments know how much I value him, his team, and especially this community. I am drawn to make a statement or two. Graham is not our personal friend. He is a talented celebrity, but more important: he is just a human being. I feel it is not our place to ask him personal questions or make comments about his voice or his looks. There is no question we have strong feelings of gratitude and affection for him for the work he does and the ambitions he follows. One of the things I appreciate the most about us is we live virtually all over the world, so our governments, climates, and political environments vary. And our life circumstances greatly vary. Thank God, we are different in so many ways (cretainly including Graham) , but we are the same (certainly including Graham) in one way: we try to live the best way we can to be the best person . Personally, most of Graham's Tuesdays have been a comfort, challenge, and inspiration to me. Best wishes and gratitude to all of you!
Graham, I am sitting at my desk chair applauding your ever growing, deepening, and expanding talent. This poem is a shimmering light of alliteration, rhyme, and a high level of specific connotation. How lucky we are you have chosen us to share your thoughts through all these beautiful poems! I am old, so ads don't lure me as they once did. I giggle every time I see one of those car commercials out in the wild because of what you formerly said about your friend who once wrote those commercials. Ads and pictures of food are still luring to me because of my carb/sugar addiction. I will keep rereading this poem as a strong weapon against that. Blessings to you in your continued recovery.
Glad you're back and feeling better. It does take awhile to get over that stuff. Graham, it's true we do have to constantly be aware of what the media or some people are trying to sell us. I've pretty much cut out all TV now where before I used to be the couch potato parked in front of the TV. That was the lazy person, but now, I rely on God to guide me in choosing what I eat, when I do watch TV, what I watch, etc. I'm a much better and happier person now that I cut out all that garbage out of my life. I love getting outside and enjoying nature. This past weekend, my brother was visiting, and for the first time, I got to share three areas where I walk and was able to walk with him. Things are also going well on losing the weight. Hit a plateau, but that seems to be going in a preferred direction now. Take care Graham, rest up, and hopefully, we will see you soon! Thank you for this poem. Cheers!
So happy you are feeling better. You still sound weak so please take care of yourself and get stronger.
You mentioned in your recent Podcast with Amber Marshall that you dont need all the things you thought you did. That you have decided you want the lifestyle of people living out in the country and having a garden to grow your own food and enjoy the out doors. Im 91 yrs of age and I have lived a very good life. My childhood was good and in my adulthoood I married my childhood sweetheart. We were married 69 yrs. He passed 3 years ago. I have a very caring family but I needed something in my life to keep me stimulated. You have given me that with your words of advice and meditations and your love of God. Keep it coming! I enjoyed this poem because at this time we are being bombarded with commercials and health advice and political views and we have to me very careful with our choices. You have given us a lot to think about. Thank You ! Take care and God Bless you!
Graham it’s good to hear your voice although it is clear you are not at the end of the recovery tunnel yet. Keep heading toward the light but don’t rush it- we all will still be here and in the end, it is your health that is priority #1. With respect to what you wrote- about ten years ago I stopped accumulating crap that comes from impulses that are out of youthful exuberance, false expectations and senseless needs that are more easily ignored than obsess over. You can’t eat their words so why feed into their lies and deceit? Political ads are the worst form of the lot! Collecting crap that you surely can’t take with you is another impulse you don’t control when younger but you find it ties you down when you are older. All of the “valuable” stuff will surely land in a dumpster courtesy of the children when we are gone. I tell my wife when you shop buy only things we can consume not accumulate. With respect to ads, there is always a mute button on the remote or fast forward on the DVR! Please please get yourself to your baseline health BEFORE you attempt to jump back into the hectic lifestyle- you are mortal, and we will all still be here when that day comes!!!
First of all good to hear you are on the road to recovery. I have learned over my many years think for myself. I don't do news media worst enemy we have . Think for yourself . This poem is food for thought. Blessings to you.
His poem is a dissertation, when he talks about our mind alienated to false promisses, of advertisers capable of make us see, what does not exist, falses repititions that confuse us, and make us believe in the abstract... I am a person very simple, I don't surrender to futility, to advertisements, I prefer simplicity and the basics. I have an idol, which I worship with all my heart... You... I appreciate your honesty and your simplicity, you are authentic and tell the truth, hurts whoever it hurts... I like how you act with firmness in adverse situations, like when you left Heartland... Firm in the purpose of following your heart, you didn't give in to no appeal to change his mind. Follow your plan firmly even if it brings you troubles...
LIFE IS LIKE THIS...
Every stone a lesson
Every difficulty a test
Every joy a victory
Every desapointment a new chance to start over...
Just as a comma changes a sentence, an attitude change a story... Take care...
OMG, Graham ~ it sounds as if you need a Shot of Sunshine – with some honey, lemon & warm water. Hope you're feeling better soon!!!
Used to enjoy teaching units on propaganda & subliminal perception back in the day. The kids loved analyzing the ads. Hope they are still teaching that to our young folks. I needed a dose of reality myself lately when I actually ordered invisible facelift tape that turned out to be the size of a baby band-aid. It was suppose to pull back my jowl behind my ears! What was I thinking?!? Ha ha!
Here are two books you might read (while you are recuperating) that pioneered the psychological methods advertisers first used in manipulating our unconscious desires: The Hidden Persuaders by Vance Packard and Subliminal Seduction by Wilson Key. Very old, but fascinating…
Hi Barbara ~ Ha Ha! If you liked those, you should try my Substack blog called That's Good To Know. It has a lot of lighthearted oldies but goodies -- about aging on it. xoxo
I'm so glad to hear you're on the mend, Graham. Your voice still sounds very tired. A time of illness often gives you the opportunity to reflect, read and write. Enjoy it. Take the time to take good care of yourself.
As for your new poem, I can say that ads do not affect me. I am an outdoor person, without TV. I consciously choose what I want to buy, eat or read and let me inspire by friends .
The poem was beautiful written! Thanks for sharing this with us.
I hope the group chat won't be Saturday, I won't be able to be there ... But I hope to see you Sunday on Lynette's return day.
I love the poem, and did speak volumes to me. I lived without a TV for two years as I had a lot of healing to do and I didn’t want a lot of outside noise. To this day I don’t watch any News although I occasionally listen to local news on the radio but only about five minutes of it. I read food labels and I am sure that I eat unhealthy items especially when I eat out in a restaurant. You still need to take care of yourself, I could hear it in your voice, but I am glad that you are on the road to recovery. I will continue to pray for you and for your health and wellness. Please don’t try to come back too soon, make sure that your body is completely healed. Blessings Graham!
Graham, in all your writings and posts in general, there is always positivity, but this poem reflects a mood that is more indicative of your tired body and mind than of the happy and positive Graham I love.
Get well soon. We need you, I need your positive affirmations.
Graham, aside from this great poem that you just provided us today the most important thing to all of us is to hear you and even though you don't sound quite yourself it's just good to hear you and know that you are making some progress in your healing. Regarding your poem it is so true the media and the TV commercials are so out there so much junk and even all of the scammers and Bots on social media. I feel like I have learned to recognize the bad stuff at least most of it anyway. I get so many emails that I recognize as junk or scams and I just delete them. So much false advertising with regard to the content of different foods cereals meat whatever you really have to be on top of things to be able to recognize what's good and what's bad. Thank you so much Graham we are so happy to hear from you we have all been so worried about you. We are all so thankful and grateful to have you in our lives love you.❤️❤️❤️
This poem really spoke to me Graham. I have taken a stance that I don’t watch the news or programs with adverts. That’s what drew me to your social media because of its inspirational and positive messages of the right kind. I also still get to choose what I read, participate in and watch. It was good to hear your voice even tho you still seem a little weary. Sending good vibes for continued healing.🙏🏻❤️
Good morning GW I am happy to hear from you again. Thanks for your poem .You still need more energy please dom’t force yourself to work if you are not fully recovered yet. I can hear your voice you are not fully well yet. Yes it is true that we need to be careful what we are buying not only food but other products too. Especially in this time everything is expensive. I will not make my comment long so you can rest I always pray for you in my devotion also with KJ. God bless you .
I have to say at the age of 73, I have pretty well learned my lesson. I have learned that there is nothing you need, except books and friends. I really need books !
So good to hear your voice. Your poem resonates how I feel about the bombardment of life in general. Reflection has helped stay on track, hard sometimes tho. Rest my friend.
