I look forward to the weeks ahead. I wrote my first poem for this challenge and ended up writing several. I chose this one as it maybe short, but says a lot in the short verse.
Thanks Linda🤗❤️. Getting better at this. Thanks you for your beautiful comment 😍. Hope you have an amazing weekend also. I have all ready been for a drive with my eldest sister, on a hot🔥day of 36°C. In the 30s for the next 4 days.
This is a big, broad topic, but the journaling helped me narrow to what I want my optimal health to feel like in my body. The word that came to me was "Wholeness".
Those first barefoot steps into cool, damp sand
The energy travels up my legs to my core.
An ocean breeze fluttering through my hair,
Feeling abundantly free and longing for more.
Cold fresh water quenches my thirst,
I climb over rocks to reach new heights.
Clean air fills my lungs, blood rushes through veins
Cathey, I love your poem. It resonates with me in so many ways, because those are all the feelings that I feel when I am at the beach walking in the sand, wading
in the ocean. Taking in the ocean breeze. Thanks for sharing!!!!😊❤️
Cathey, enjoyed this, I could feel each step on your walk. The last line resonated with me as I often say a similar prayer at end of my walks, especially the challenging ones…like the Grassi Lake in Canada last fall.
Walking is when I feel the energy flowing through me, both physically and mentally. When I walk in the morning, especially at sunrise, my whole being feels energized. Here is my poem, that I will use to remind myself of the benefits I get from walking.
Exercise more it’s good for your health. Drink more water, eat healthy . Take care of your body. With all of that in mind, I even signed up again for the third time to do the “March Charge” which is Cancer Council’s walking challenge!
“In the new year's gentle light, I'll step into the day so bright, With every dawn,
a promise made,
To seek the paths where nature's laid.
I'll wander through the whispering trees,
Feel the soft caress
of the breeze, Each sunset painting skies of gold,
A canvas of peace, a sight to behold.
With every meal, a mindful choice,
Colors of veggies,
l'll rejoice,
Fruits like jewels,
vibrant and sweet,
Fueling my body,
a nourishing treat.
So here's to health,
my heart's desire,
With every step, I'll climb higher, In nature's arms,
There are so many wise nuggets in your words, Irene. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. I love the determination in the lines that begin “I’ll”. I hope you have a great week. ❤️🤗
I loved reading this so much Irene. It somehow flowed so nicely and I tend to really enjoy rhymes for some reason. I'm sending you my love and support for your health journey ahead. With love...
😁 I did the same Irene, however, I did not write mine the 1st day but I did wait 2 days while I reread and edited it before I felt confident. We put added pressure on ourselves. 😬
Irene I love this see you can write and I love everything about your poem. A canvas of peace and the fruits like jewels to seek Paths where nature laid speaks to me. Thank you for sharing this poem .
I really feel your words. I love how the feeling shifts from heavy and grey to something like a view of the tiny shoots that may be starting to wake up in seeds deep in the earth; a little bit of hope and potential and gratitude.
Thank you very much Breaha. I have been challenged so far with the guidance and thought suggestions that Graham has given us. I have enjoyed digging deeper. I wish you and your family the best in 2025. ❤️🤗
Thank you very much Barbara! So far it has been good, new habits adopted, some old ones discarded. I love the encouragement from you and others in the community. 🤗❤️. I wish you a great week.
Since I got back from Canada and realized I could hike down to the falls at sheep River I got excited about living this new lifestyle and it’s made a difference with my weight loss and exercise. Makes me sleep very well at night.
I do my best and that’s why it takes discipline and when I fall, I get right back up and change my diet or exercise or my sleep the same day or next day.
I am excited for this new challenge, the August 2022 one was so rewarding for me, a step out of my comfort zone for sure. The rewards from that experience were more than I could have ever imagined, I feel this challenge will inspire me to grow and expand my writing, so thank you, Graham! This is a quick verse I wrote about the challenge, organizing my thoughts as I was thinking about the upcoming weeks and the themes you shared.
Oh, Vicky — I understand the challenge: I started every school day with a Pepsi for 30 years. 🙄 One morning it went down the wrong pipe. I thought I was going to have to call in sick. 😂
Hi Linda — Thanks! just getting started on chair yoga. Tried a dancing app; couldn’t keep up. Yikes! I hate mammograms. They always see something so I have to have redos — to find nothing luckily. But I’m always scared.
I love your poem Elizabeth. I don't live near a beach so that I can do that on a daily basis. But when I am at the beach a couple times a year that is me, I love all the atmosphere of the beach.!!! I enjoyed reading your poem.😊❤️
I guess I will go first. ;-) If Graham starts a new thread for submissions, I will post there, too.
"1066.."
I went for a very long walk and I never stopped
After 1066 miles, my feet and body just dropped
I went for miles and miles and many more miles
Experienced oodles and oodles of trails, trials, and smiles
To the coast, to the mountains, to Canada, I went
A valley I crossed and a peak I ascent
I huffed and I puffed as my lungs filled with air
When the going got tough, I offered a prayer
With each step, my feet felt numb with excruciating pain
I focused on the journey not the ache in my brain
The views and the vistas and nature galore
Made me forget all about the raging world war
Frog Lake is my most happiest of places
Sun, air, and wind offering me graces
Shealor Lake was a first with a stumble and glitches
Off to Kaiser I went for not one but eight stitches
Grateful for my feet that took me so far
To the moon and back and beyond that bright star
Go outside, take a walk, and breathe deeply in
Be kind, be your love, be happy in your own skin
Somehow I was pretty sure yours might be from a hiker's perspective. Nicely done, Dia!
Love this!
Well done Dia.👏👏 I love your last line. Enjoy your weekend! 🤗❤️
Thank you! I actually like it, too! ;-)
Very nicely done thank you for sharing this.
Thanks.
I love your frog lake!
Me, too. It's in an area which I consider my happy place. I am comfortable hiking solo or with a group. I just love it there.
Dia, so enjoyed reading your walking journey, felt the rhythm in your writing as I read it aloud! Well done!
Linda, let's plan a walk soon!
Great job Dia! 🥰
Thank you Leigh!
Thank you Dia for taking me along on your walk! Bravo!
Barbara, thanks for joining me. Walking company is always welcomed! ;-)
Well done Dia. I enjoyed reading it.!!!!!😊❤️
Thank you! ;-)
I love how you describe your hikes! I feel like I'm there with you enjoying those incredible places. 🏃♀️
👏 well done!
Thank you Diane! ;-)
Each line is real life - even the eight stitches! :-)
I look forward to the weeks ahead. I wrote my first poem for this challenge and ended up writing several. I chose this one as it maybe short, but says a lot in the short verse.
ONE STEP AT A TIME
One step at a time.
Just one step to move ahead.
One step to follow through.
You can do this.
You have in the past.
Remember.
Be kind to yourself.
Acknowledge your achievement.
Acknowledge that one step.
Then take another.
One step at a time.
I love the idea of one step at a time and you express your thoughts so well. Enjoy your weekend Christine. 🤗❤️
Thanks Linda🤗❤️. Getting better at this. Thanks you for your beautiful comment 😍. Hope you have an amazing weekend also. I have all ready been for a drive with my eldest sister, on a hot🔥day of 36°C. In the 30s for the next 4 days.
Love your poem Christine. Good job!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Kathleen🤗💖. I've been having difficulty writing lately. I hope this challenge helps me to be inspired once again.
Good advice! 💗
Thanks Cathey💖🤗. I'm trying to do this more & not let my anxiety rule me. Not always easy, but I try.
That's all it takes Christine! That first step and then one at a time after that! You're doing it!!
One step has so much power. You've expressed that well!
Christine I love this and I love one step at a time.
Heart pounds, taking in nature’s glorious sights.
One more mile as my muscles complain
Determined to test them while pushing ahead
My body will thank me and my spirit will soar
When I don’t give up but push forward instead.
I made it! I stand and take in the view.
Exhausted, exhilarated, joy flooding my soul.
So grateful for wellness and feeling alive
A quiet prayer of thanks for being made whole.
I can just imagine walking along the Northern California coastline with the wind wildly whipping my curls around. Aaahhh…
Oregon Coast for me, but any beach will do!
Thank you Cathey for this very well written, descriptive poem. I enjoyed feeling what you felt as you became whole!
Thank you, Barbara! I love hearing when one of my poems resonates for someone - that means a lot.
Cathey, I love your poem. It resonates with me in so many ways, because those are all the feelings that I feel when I am at the beach walking in the sand, wading
in the ocean. Taking in the ocean breeze. Thanks for sharing!!!!😊❤️
Thank you, Kathleen! I never get tired of walking on a beach. I do some of my best thinking there.
Thank you for this feeling. Considering how I feel today I needed a distraction from it.
Beautiful poem, Cathey! Your words transported me to the beach.
We love our beaches, don't we! I can't wait to get back to the Oregon Coast this spring.
I love your writing Cathey. You are so talented. I could picture everything in my mind as I read along. Thank you for sharing your talents🤗💖
Thank you so much, Christine! You are such an encouragement to me. ❤️
Beautiful, Cathey! You have such an expressive style. I feel it! 🤗❤️
Thanks, Linda - this one challenged me a bit which is always a good thing!
I would certainly love to join you on this walk.
Cathey, enjoyed this, I could feel each step on your walk. The last line resonated with me as I often say a similar prayer at end of my walks, especially the challenging ones…like the Grassi Lake in Canada last fall.
Grassi Lake? That was a challenge!
You should be proud of yourself for completing that hike! Bet it felt great at the top.
Walking is when I feel the energy flowing through me, both physically and mentally. When I walk in the morning, especially at sunrise, my whole being feels energized. Here is my poem, that I will use to remind myself of the benefits I get from walking.
"Lace Up Walking Shoes"
Lace up walking shoes
Nature calling, time to go
Feel the morning glow
Walk with a purpose
Step by step getting stronger
Growing from within
Whole body energized
With every breath of fresh air
Filling up my cup
Whispers from nature
Speak to me, giving guidance
That I am seeking
Cares and woes take flight
My spirit soars, soul revives
As my body thrives
So lace up those shoes
Listen to nature's calling
Trail is waiting for me
Nice rhythm with this poem, Linda! One fitness coach I had said the first step is putting on the shoes and this reminded me of that.
When I put on my walking shoes, I feel a shift in my body, like yes going for a walk.
Linda, I love your poem and it does have a nice rhythm. And you’re right the first thing you have to do is lace up the shoes.
We ought to go for a walk together! 😎. It is physically and mentally so beneficial!
We need to do that…yes it’s beneficial in so many ways!
Love it Linda!
Linda, this is so good!! Fits so well with the theme of your published book of poetry!!!! I love it.❤️😊
Kathleen, you are so kind, walks help me find inspiration.
Thank you for your beautiful poem, Linda! There's nothing like going for a walk and enjoying nature 🏃♀️
I love this Linda. It is like being with you on the walk but also I can feel the spirit, the energy. 🤗❤️
Thank you Linda...
Cheers Linda! I know how you love your walks and appreciate you sharing the experience! Great job!
A windswept dune
A silhouette,
Contemplative.
Barefoot, toes caressing warm grains of sand.
Gulls calling
She stands like a mountain
Tadasana
Her strength reflected in the pose.
Countless blessings had been bestowed.
Determination informed the flow -
Tree, chair, dog and bridge.
Each a tribute to her journey.
In the stillness she embraced
Shavasana
Surrendering to gratitude.
Beautiful! I love sand dunes and yoga. Thank you for sharing.
I love this Barbara. Thank you for sharing it with us. 🤗❤️
Love the picture of yoga on a sand dune!
Thank you, Cathy
Week 1
A New Me
My heart is beating faster
as my mind is starting to clear
My muscles are working harder,
as my thoughts start to disappear
My breathing is easier and deeper
I have energy to go that extra mile
I AM STRONGER
More water in my glass
More vibrant colors on my plate
More fruit, less sugar
More vegetables, less carbs
My body feels the difference
I CAN DO THIS
I have reached my goal,
The benefits I feel are numerous
My body feels energized
My heart and mind are working as one
I will fight the temptations in my life,
I will not go back
I am living a healthier life
I AM HEALTHY
The Time Has Come to stop the bad habits
The TIME HAS COME to stop making excuses
The Time Has Come to be the best ME
I AM IN CONTROL
Vicky, nice work setting goals and working towards them, very inspiring!
Vicky, this is great. I feel your conviction to be in your control of your health!
I am going to try AGAIN 😁 and if I fail 1 day I will get back on
This is very good, Vicky. Great job!
Thank you Leigh 🤗
This is great Vicky. It is very motivating and determined. I love it. Well done! 👏👏👏

WEEK 1- HEALTH
New Year note to myself!
Health is more important than any kind of wealth.

So here's to health,
my heart's desire,
With every step, I'll climb higher, In nature's arms,
I'll find my way,
Embracing life, come what may.
Nurturing my health, fulfilling my dreams.
So here's to the choices,
both big and small,
To the love for my body, embracing it all.
With each passing day,
I'll commit and I'll strive,
For this year is the year I will truly thrive.”
There are so many wise nuggets in your words, Irene. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. I love the determination in the lines that begin “I’ll”. I hope you have a great week. ❤️🤗
Thank you Linda so much for your kind words 🙏💜
This is so lovely and a great motivation for me.

Irene, great rhythm in your poem, as I was reading I felt urge to move in fun steps. Love the commitment of the last line!
Thank you Linda for the encouragement. I was very close to deleting my entry. 🙏
I loved reading this so much Irene. It somehow flowed so nicely and I tend to really enjoy rhymes for some reason. I'm sending you my love and support for your health journey ahead. With love...
Thank you Barbara, I just discovered that I’m very fond of rhymes. Sometimes it works other times no , I still need to practice.
Oh I get that! I love how the rhyming sounds but it's not always easy to write a rhyming poem.🤪
Irene, your poem is beautiful, and so meaningful!! Thanks for sharing,👏💜
Thank you Kathleen, your poem was wonderful as well! Great job 👏
Great example of a heathy lifestyle Irene 👏👏
Thank you Vicky, I wrote this from the first day the challenge was announced but I just didn’t feel confident enough to share it.
Thank you Kathy 🙏💜
Winter gray
I absorb the gray around me
The dead, the lifeless, the lethargic
My spirit sinks my soul cries out
In the stillness I weep
Guidance, clarity, awareness
I am better than this
My mind opens to hidden beauty
Freshness of anticipation. awakening, renewal
The regrowth springing from the gray
My spirit rises, my heart explodes with energy
Enlightened, refreshed I arise
My self care journey begins now, this moment
Born from the vision of my heart
Joy, determination, inspiration, a plan
I am a child of God
I am alive
Linda, lovely verse about starting your self care journey..my favorite line is joy, determination, inspiration which lead you to a plan.
Thank you very much Linda. My mind is still full of so many thoughts based on this week’s challenge. I hope you have a good weekend. 🤗❤️
My mind was the same, so many thoughts with several different ways to go. Enjoy your weekend!

Pillars of Health
Three pillars of health I must hold dear,
Maintain discipline throughout the year
To keep a balanced life a healthy year.
Eating nutritious food, a vital part,
Fuel for my body, a healthy start.
Fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains too,
Nourishment for growth, and all I do.
Exercise keeps me strong and bright,
Physical activity, a healthy delight.
Moving my body in ways I adore,
Breath in and breath out
Releasing endorphins, and so much more.
Sleep, the rejuvenator, of body and mind,
Restful nights, a healthy find.
Dreams and repair, a nightly pace,
Awakening refreshed, a healthy face.
Three hours, three topics, intertwined,
A healthy lifestyle, forever aligned.
Eat, exercise, sleep, a harmonious blend,
A healthy life, a true and lasting friend.

Since I got back from Canada and realized I could hike down to the falls at sheep River I got excited about living this new lifestyle and it’s made a difference with my weight loss and exercise. Makes me sleep very well at night.
Sheila, keep moving! There is nothing better than sleeping well!
I do my best and that’s why it takes discipline and when I fall, I get right back up and change my diet or exercise or my sleep the same day or next day.
Wise words and intentions, Sheila!
Thank you, Linda. I appreciate your comment.
I embrace all of those things with you Sheila!! You go lady!
Thank you, Barbara back at ya

Cancer, That Hidden Spot
By Lucinda Jolly
Hidden where it can’t be seen.
Silently crippling its host.
Describes itself needing medical care the most.
Attacking young and old.
None singled out to another. Having the name of Cancer. Causing fears like no other.
Inside or out time shows there’s no mercy. Diagnosis to doctors , chemo to radiation. Overthinking to worry.
Time comes for self research dedicated to your own health and cure. No one doctor can heal you. Being proactive in foods are healthy choices.

Dear Janet Lee,
Thank You
for drinking more water and less Pepsi
using less sugar while increasing fresh foods
taking our cholesterol meds and fewer ibuprofen
wearing sunscreen and scheduling our mammogram
doing chair yoga and going to bed earlier.
By the way, the music boxing machine has been fun.
I feel better.
Gratefully,
Your Body xoxo
Chair yoga!!! Yes!!! We must facetime about this. It's soooo not as easy as it sounds.
Just starting. We can compare notes later. 😂
I did chair yoga today and no it’s not easy but sure is fun.
I need some added willpower. I am giving up my morning Pepsi next week, 🥴 my morning caffeine since I do not drink coffee.
Oh, Vicky — I understand the challenge: I started every school day with a Pepsi for 30 years. 🙄 One morning it went down the wrong pipe. I thought I was going to have to call in sick. 😂
Jan, I enjoyed reading the “letter” , inspiring. I have mammogram scheduled next week and have tried chair yoga…need to do it again.
Hi Linda — Thanks! just getting started on chair yoga. Tried a dancing app; couldn’t keep up. Yikes! I hate mammograms. They always see something so I have to have redos — to find nothing luckily. But I’m always scared.
I like the future vision! Kudos great idea!
Thanks!
I love this!
Amazing poem, so creative how your body talks to you.
Thanks, Kathy — she’s been shocked looking in the mirror lately! I think she’s trying to get my attention. 😂
Jan,I love your take on this. Nice job!!!
I hope she keeps talking loud & clear to me during 2025. 😂 Thanks!
Ok here is my health poem for the first week of the challenge. Looking forward to how this all plays out. So here we go.
Membership to Nowhere
(if I don’t go)
Gazing in the mirror
A reflection,not seeing what I like.
Where do I go from here?
Where do I see myself in a year?
Decision need to be made
For health and wellness
Leave me with a new found
awareness.
Connecting my mind, body and soul.
How stronger I would be
changing this habit just for me.
Looking my best in my cloths
Loving myself mind body and soul.
Thinking of all the great foods I
could eat.
Food my daughter made just
for me.
Playing with my granddaughter
Feeling alive and care free.
Imagine how I would feel in just
one year.
Healthier, more connected mind
body and soul.
A Membership to Nowhere (If I don’t
go)
I choose to do this for me.
Shari, such a lovely poem. It resonated with me. I have begun to turn things around for me. Getting back on the right path
!!👏❤️😊
Kathleen I’m glad it resonated with you. And glad you’re turning things around to benefit you. So you can get back on track. Have a wonderful night.
Thank you Kathy
Metamorphosis
I quieted my mind
I cleared my thoughts and I walked
I emerge from the darkness
The mirror is no longer the enemy
The smile meets my eyes and I shine
I am grateful for myself
I can walk this new path
I have done this on my own
I dance freely, laugh with true joy, live with confidence
My spirit is lifted by love from beyond the stars
The voice I have kept hidden for so long is singing loud
I did this and I am eternally grateful.
This is really lovely, Robin.
I love your metamorphosis, Robin!
I share my poem from the January Writers' Challenge : Week 1
"Peaceful moments"
At six in the morning, my soul awakens,
I go for a walk, filled with emotion.
I take a deep breath, the pure air fills me,
every step I take floods my heart.
Being alone, I connect with nature,
a unique moment, a gift from God.
At the end of my walk, I go to the beach,
I put my bare feet on the soft sand.
I feel life flow, like a dancing wave,
the gentle breeze carries me forward.
I thank life for every new day,
for health, love, and joy.
The sea, my second home, gives me peace,
in its immensity, my soul finds its freedom.
Here ends my walk, and I begin to think,
that tomorrow I will return to this beautiful place.
Elizabeth, you are so fortunate to live by the sea. Thank you for sharing the sea with us!
Thank you Barbara! ❤
This has such a beautiful feeling, Elizabeth. Thank you for sharing your special walk with us.
Thank you for your kind words! ❤
Elizabeth this is so beautiful and tue. I can see my self walking along side you specially by the ocean.
Thank you Shari! I would love to walk with you on the beach 🏃♀️
Beautiful poem Elizabeth! ❤️🤗
Muito obrigada, Valdelice 🤗
I love your poem Elizabeth. I don't live near a beach so that I can do that on a daily basis. But when I am at the beach a couple times a year that is me, I love all the atmosphere of the beach.!!! I enjoyed reading your poem.😊❤️
Thank you Kathleen! The beach is my favorite place for my daily walks. I'm sure every time you go you enjoy it very much.

Thank you Kathy! Definitely a gift from God ❤️
Week one writing challenge.
“Health for the Soul”
Sitting in silence, heavy with decisions, trials, and unanswered questions
Fear not; I’m always by your side, says the peace speaker
Move forward. Allow peace to be your guide.
It’s the umbrella that protects from storms, sunshine, and warmth on a cold, cloudy day. It’s a river that flows to wash all fears away.
It’s the calm where burdens are released and negative thoughts and worries are kept at bay.
This powerful medicine transforms my inner world, leaving it peaceful amid turmoil in my mind.
Seek it, experience it, but don’t try to understand.
Trust in the peace, relish in its wisdom.
A beautiful, inspiring song

Beautiful Deloris!!!
Thank you Kathleen!
Deloris, an inspiring verse about listening to our soul and finding the peace and calm.
Thank you, Linda. Peace contributes to both emotional and physical health.
Nice, Deloris. Spiritual health affects all the other healthy aspects of our life, doesn't it?
I am confident it does.
Thank you Kathy!
