I guess I will go first. ;-) If Graham starts a new thread for submissions, I will post there, too.

"1066.."

I went for a very long walk and I never stopped

After 1066 miles, my feet and body just dropped

I went for miles and miles and many more miles

Experienced oodles and oodles of trails, trials, and smiles

To the coast, to the mountains, to Canada, I went

A valley I crossed and a peak I ascent

I huffed and I puffed as my lungs filled with air

When the going got tough, I offered a prayer

With each step, my feet felt numb with excruciating pain

I focused on the journey not the ache in my brain

The views and the vistas and nature galore

Made me forget all about the raging world war

Frog Lake is my most happiest of places

Sun, air, and wind offering me graces

Shealor Lake was a first with a stumble and glitches

Off to Kaiser I went for not one but eight stitches

Grateful for my feet that took me so far

To the moon and back and beyond that bright star

Go outside, take a walk, and breathe deeply in

Be kind, be your love, be happy in your own skin

I look forward to the weeks ahead. I wrote my first poem for this challenge and ended up writing several. I chose this one as it maybe short, but says a lot in the short verse.

ONE STEP AT A TIME

One step at a time.

Just one step to move ahead.

One step to follow through.

You can do this.

You have in the past.

Remember.

Be kind to yourself.

Acknowledge your achievement.

Acknowledge that one step.

Then take another.

One step at a time.

This is a big, broad topic, but the journaling helped me narrow to what I want my optimal health to feel like in my body. The word that came to me was "Wholeness".

Those first barefoot steps into cool, damp sand

The energy travels up my legs to my core.

An ocean breeze fluttering through my hair,

Feeling abundantly free and longing for more.

Cold fresh water quenches my thirst,

I climb over rocks to reach new heights.

Clean air fills my lungs, blood rushes through veins

Heart pounds, taking in nature’s glorious sights.

One more mile as my muscles complain

Determined to test them while pushing ahead

My body will thank me and my spirit will soar

When I don’t give up but push forward instead.

I made it! I stand and take in the view.

Exhausted, exhilarated, joy flooding my soul.

So grateful for wellness and feeling alive

A quiet prayer of thanks for being made whole.

Walking is when I feel the energy flowing through me, both physically and mentally. When I walk in the morning, especially at sunrise, my whole being feels energized. Here is my poem, that I will use to remind myself of the benefits I get from walking.

"Lace Up Walking Shoes"

Lace up walking shoes

Nature calling, time to go

Feel the morning glow

Walk with a purpose

Step by step getting stronger

Growing from within

Whole body energized

With every breath of fresh air

Filling up my cup

Whispers from nature

Speak to me, giving guidance

That I am seeking

Cares and woes take flight

My spirit soars, soul revives

As my body thrives

So lace up those shoes

Listen to nature's calling

Trail is waiting for me

Week 1

A New Me

My heart is beating faster

as my mind is starting to clear

My muscles are working harder,

as my thoughts start to disappear

My breathing is easier and deeper

I have energy to go that extra mile

I AM STRONGER

More water in my glass

More vibrant colors on my plate

More fruit, less sugar

More vegetables, less carbs

My body feels the difference

I CAN DO THIS

I have reached my goal,

The benefits I feel are numerous

My body feels energized

My heart and mind are working as one

I will fight the temptations in my life,

I will not go back

I am living a healthier life

I AM HEALTHY

The Time Has Come to stop the bad habits

The TIME HAS COME to stop making excuses

The Time Has Come to be the best ME

WEEK 1- HEALTH

New Year note to myself!

Health is more important than any kind of wealth.

Exercise more it’s good for your health. Drink more water, eat healthy . Take care of your body. With all of that in mind, I even signed up again for the third time to do the “March Charge” which is Cancer Council’s walking challenge!

“In the new year's gentle light, I'll step into the day so bright, With every dawn,

a promise made,

To seek the paths where nature's laid.

I'll wander through the whispering trees,

Feel the soft caress

of the breeze, Each sunset painting skies of gold,

A canvas of peace, a sight to behold.

With every meal, a mindful choice,

Colors of veggies,

l'll rejoice,

Fruits like jewels,

vibrant and sweet,

Fueling my body,

a nourishing treat.

So here's to health,

my heart's desire,

With every step, I'll climb higher, In nature's arms,

I'll find my way,

Embracing life, come what may.

Nurturing my health, fulfilling my dreams.

So here's to the choices,

both big and small,

To the love for my body, embracing it all.

With each passing day,

I'll commit and I'll strive,

For this year is the year I will truly thrive.”

Winter gray

I absorb the gray around me

The dead, the lifeless, the lethargic

My spirit sinks my soul cries out

In the stillness I weep

Guidance, clarity, awareness

I am better than this

My mind opens to hidden beauty

Freshness of anticipation. awakening, renewal

The regrowth springing from the gray

My spirit rises, my heart explodes with energy

Enlightened, refreshed I arise

My self care journey begins now, this moment

Born from the vision of my heart

Joy, determination, inspiration, a plan

I am a child of God

I am alive

Pillars of Health

Three pillars of health I must hold dear,

Maintain discipline throughout the year

To keep a balanced life a healthy year.

Eating nutritious food, a vital part,

Fuel for my body, a healthy start.

Fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains too,

Nourishment for growth, and all I do.

Exercise keeps me strong and bright,

Physical activity, a healthy delight.

Moving my body in ways I adore,

Breath in and breath out

Releasing endorphins, and so much more.

Sleep, the rejuvenator, of body and mind,

Restful nights, a healthy find.

Dreams and repair, a nightly pace,

Awakening refreshed, a healthy face.

Three hours, three topics, intertwined,

A healthy lifestyle, forever aligned.

Eat, exercise, sleep, a harmonious blend,

A healthy life, a true and lasting friend.

Cancer, That Hidden Spot

By Lucinda Jolly

Hidden where it can’t be seen.

Silently crippling its host.

Describes itself needing medical care the most.

Attacking young and old.

None singled out to another. Having the name of Cancer. Causing fears like no other.

Inside or out time shows there’s no mercy. Diagnosis to doctors , chemo to radiation. Overthinking to worry.

Time comes for self research dedicated to your own health and cure. No one doctor can heal you. Being proactive in foods are healthy choices.

Membership to Nowhere

(if I don’t go)

Gazing in the mirror

A reflection,not seeing what I like.

Where do I go from here?

Where do I see myself in a year?

Decision need to be made

For health and wellness

Leave me with a new found

awareness.

Connecting my mind, body and soul.

How stronger I would be

changing this habit just for me.

Looking my best in my cloths

Loving myself mind body and soul.

Thinking of all the great foods I

could eat.

Food my daughter made just

for me.

Playing with my granddaughter

Feeling alive and care free.

Imagine how I would feel in just

one year.

Healthier, more connected mind

body and soul.

A Membership to Nowhere (If I don’t

go)

I choose to do this for me.

I share my poem from the January Writers' Challenge : Week 1

"Peaceful moments"

At six in the morning, my soul awakens,

I go for a walk, filled with emotion.

I take a deep breath, the pure air fills me,

every step I take floods my heart.

Being alone, I connect with nature,

a unique moment, a gift from God.

At the end of my walk, I go to the beach,

I put my bare feet on the soft sand.

I feel life flow, like a dancing wave,

the gentle breeze carries me forward.

I thank life for every new day,

for health, love, and joy.

The sea, my second home, gives me peace,

in its immensity, my soul finds its freedom.

Here ends my walk, and I begin to think,

that tomorrow I will return to this beautiful place.

I love your poem Elizabeth. I don't live near a beach so that I can do that on a daily basis. But when I am at the beach a couple times a year that is me, I love all the atmosphere of the beach.!!! I enjoyed reading your poem.😊❤️

Week one writing challenge.

“Health for the Soul”

Sitting in silence, heavy with decisions, trials, and unanswered questions

Fear not; I’m always by your side, says the peace speaker

Move forward. Allow peace to be your guide.

It’s the umbrella that protects from storms, sunshine, and warmth on a cold, cloudy day. It’s a river that flows to wash all fears away.

It’s the calm where burdens are released and negative thoughts and worries are kept at bay.

This powerful medicine transforms my inner world, leaving it peaceful amid turmoil in my mind.

Seek it, experience it, but don’t try to understand.

Trust in the peace, relish in its wisdom.

A beautiful, inspiring song
